The process of turning wool into a soft, light fabric is complicated and long. Dozens of machines grind, mix, dose, comb, and even out the mass of fiber before it turns into yarn. But until recently, the chain of these machines was broken, and some operations were performed manually, while others required mandatory human involvement. The transfer of the product from machine to machine was also partially carried out by workers.



An automatic production line for the production of a wool fiber carding belt has recently been put into operation at the Pavlovo-Posad worsted mill near Moscow. The inventors of this machine — V. Novak, A. Zadoya, F. Kovalev, L. Glotzer, A. Rezvyakov — decided to fully automate the process of preparing wool for spinning. To accomplish this task, it was necessary to create a number of completely new devices: vertical feeders, mechanized warehouses for storing mixtures, automatic self-unloading bins. All units of the line, including some previous machines, are connected by a system of conveyors and pneumatic pipelines. The result is a single system of automatically operating devices, which is controlled from two remote controls. The line made it possible to significantly increase output and improve product quality. Manual labor has been eliminated, and the sanitary and hygienic working conditions in the workshop have been improved. This is another contribution to the solution of the task set by the seven—year plan: to produce half a million kilometers of woolen fabrics in 1965 - more than a hundred thousand kilometers more than the distance from the Earth to the Moon.
